A Bold and Retro Summer Portrait Sesssion with Shelby Muir | Memphis, TN

Somehow I found myself in a tiny Arkansas town, just on the other side of the Mississippi River. As I pulled off the interstate, I saw a beautiful monument beaming with potential, a structure with a bold beauty that I couldn't resist, undoubtedly an overlooked treasure in this small town:
a  bright red and yellow Tops BBQ.
Memphis' Best, since 1952. I wondered what it looked like in 1952.

As I stood in this parking lot, snapping photos on my phone (and surely sparking the curiosity of the locals) I imagined what I could make with this place, my camera, and a little imagination.
I find so much satisfaction in taking locations that are undervalued, overlooked, or mundane and using it to my advantage.

Big, awesome, giant thank you to Shelby Muir for totally bringing my vision to life and being the raddest chick ever. Thanks for humoring me and the way I see the world!
