Fall Creek Falls State Park | Pikeville, TN
The night before our day at Fall Creek Falls State Park, we drove from Memphis to Nashville to break up our drive, and the entire way there was a lightening storm of epic proportions. So, naturally, I snapped a thousand pictures hoping to get one or two good ones.
Eastern Tennessee is without a doubt where my heart is. It's scattered around the waterfalls and the forrest floor and atop all the mountains and every little trip I take across this state leaves me feeling more at home. One of my latest adventure consisted of a stop in Nashville to have brunch with the cutest little lady in the world, Michael's niece Logan. Then we headed straight to Fall Creek Falls State Park where we spent the rest of the day hiking and barely scratching the surface of all that this park has to offer.
If there's anything I can count on during adventures with Michael, it's three things:
1. Waterfalls.
Yes, Waterfalls. With an "s". I think I've started to lose count of all the one's we've seen recently. But somehow each and every time we see a new one it's just as breathtaking and beautiful as the last. These surreal, natural landmarks always leave me craving another... and another. and another.
2. Lots (and I mean lots) of photographs.
Film. Digital. Snapchat. You name it.
It's who we are, and while it's important to enjoy your adventures while you're there and not be completely focused on the pictures you take, I truly enjoy my adventures lived through my lens. Everyone says, "be there, be in the moment" I am. That's how I enjoy it to the fullest, that's how I'm there. Through my camera.
3. Victory Candy.
#3 is probably the most important factor in our explorations. Victory candy is VERY necessary for waterfall chasin' and hiking. My victory candy of choice is 9 out of 10 times Watermelon Sour Patch Kids, and his is usually Peanut M&M's. When you've hiked a couple miles and you're standing at the top of a waterfall (or underneath one) it's the perfect celebratory snack.
Although we only spent one day at Fall Creek Falls, I could easily spend an entire weekend here exploring and hiking. It has so much to offer: swinging bridges, waterfalls, hiking trails, overlooks... If you're considering a trip here, dedicate a whole weekend to this park. I can't WAIT to take another trip up there this fall to see what it looks like after the leaves start changing.
And, of course, some of my film shots from this trip.
