10 Ways to Make Your Elopement Even More Unique and Personal

Eloping is a declaration of love, simplified. Deciding that a huge wedding isn’t the right fit for you and your partner, and that a small wedding is exactly what you want doesn’t mean that day has to be any less special. There are lots of ways to make your elopement wedding full of intention and meaning.

We wanted to share a few of our favorite ways we’ve seen our couples make their elopement even more personal in the most simple, most impactful ways. So here are 10 ways to make your Memphis courthouse elopement even more unique and personal.

  1. INCLUDE SENTIMENTAL DETAILS

Whether it’s a bouquet, custom vow books, sentimental jewelry, or something borrowed, blue, or totally unique to you, the littlest touches on your wedding day can make the biggest impact in making your wedding day feel like you.

2. INCLUDE YOUR DOG

I’ve already shared the best ways to include your dog in your wedding on our blog, so if you thought it wasn’t going to suggest it here then you truly underestimated how much of a dog person I am. Amanda and Michael brought their sweet fur baby for pictures after their elopement and there are very few things that make me as giddy as seeing a dog in a tux.

3. CELEBRATE WITH YOUR LOVED ONES AFTER!

Having an elopement doesn’t mean it has to be just the two of you (unless you want it to!) You can have them present for your ceremony, or meet up with them after to celebrate!

4. READ YOUR PERSONAL VOWS TO EACH OTHER AFTER YOUR ELOPEMENT

Reading your vows privately to each other after your actual ceremony is such a sentimental, romantic gesture to include in your elopement. Cara and Madison went to their favorite coffee shop, Comeback Coffee, after their elopement to read their vows to each other and have coffee together.

5. GO SOMEWHERE FOR DINNER OR A DRINK AFTER YOUR ELOPEMENT

We LOVE when our couples celebrate with a cute cocktail somewhere downtown after their elopement. Here are 5 of our favorite spots to stop in and grab a drink or dinner while we’re downtown:

Central Station - Eight and Sand
Memphis Chess Club
Bishop
Bardog
The Brass Door

6. CUT THE CAKE, OR POP THE CHAMPAGNE!

These two planned a lunch with their family and friends after their romantic, relaxed courthouse elopement. Once they got to McEwens they celebrated with champagne and a quick cake cutting!

7. GETAWAY CAR… OR TROLLEY!

Need I say more? There are very few things as romantic as riding into the sunset as a newlywed.

8. PLAN A STAYCATION IN DOWNTOWN, MEMPHIS

If after your elopement you aren’t quite ready to return to reality, plan a little Memphis Staycation. Arrive and Central Station Hotel are both super cute places to stay, with a cool lobby and lots of places nearby to grab dinner that evening.

9. GET AN ALBUM MADE WITH YOUR ELOPEMENT PHOTOS

Having an heirloom, custom designed wedding album isn’t just for big weddings with hundreds of guests. Elopements are beautiful, stunning, and meaningful and there’s nothing I love and recommend more than printing your photos and seeing them in an album.

10. INCLUDE THINGS THAT YOU LOVE

It sounds silly and vague, but it’s the truth. If you include anything that is special to the two of you, it will make your wedding day even more special. Whether that’s some of the things I listed above, going to get Chinese take out afterwards, hanging out at Overton Park, kayaking, going to your favorite bookstore together, whatever it is that makes you feel close to one another is the perfect addition to your wedding day, even if it’s unconventional!
